Videoconferencing Technology

Internet video phones

Internet video phones located in courthouses enable defence counsel to interview clients who are at police stations and correctional facilities. Accused persons in custody are no longer brought to the courthouse for defense interviews or hearings unless an order is made for this by the Judicial Case Manager. Counsel is, however, still able to interview their clients in person at the police station and correctional facility, if necessary. Crown counsel also use video phones to attend hearings remotely when their office is in a different location from the hearing location.
